#SeedHouse

Last week the girls and I had a discussion about what the natural and physical world meant. After I asked them what do they think they want to learn about from the natural and physical world. Then they both created a list of ideas. Their interests were in the areas of...
-Plants
-Bees
-Robotic toys
-Rain

Since spring is here and plants are beginning to grow, I decided to start there. So this week we built a seed house.

Building a Seed House

Empathize

We began by beginning our investigation with an open mind while we  learned about plants. Then we made a list of questions about plants to research. Next up was research time on Kiddle. The girls wanted to know about why plants grow, why do we have weeds, and why do need plants.

Ask

After reading about how plants grow and where plants can grow, I asked them if they could build a seed house. That way we could watch how seeds grow over time.

Imagine/Plan

The solution was more structured because I had to bring the supplies and we only had an hour. So I showed them the materials and then they planned. At this point of the process, we tried something different while drawing our design. Instead of drawing on paper, we used Seesaw to plan our design.

Create/Improve

Beginning Phase of Building/Creating
The building and improving phases, I've noticed, in our case, tend to go together. As we are creating, we are always asking questions and seeing if something different needs to be done. The girls are always improving their design and tweaking what needs to be tweaked along the way.

Share

To finish, they did a video of themselves sharing about the process on Seesaw. Their goal, for their video, was to share the process of building a seed house, what they thought was going to happen to the seeds on their seed house and what was challenging for them during the process.

It was a messy, fun project. The girls job this week is to take pictures of their seed houses so we can look closer at how it grows.

Until next time,
Jackie
