My fourth graders were constantly coming up to me at independent writing or reading time telling me, "Ms. Puuri, I'm done."
However, being done is not the mindset I wanted for them. I wanted them to be reflective and look for ways to improve. So I created this poster and hung it up in our room. I told them, that I no longer want them coming to me and telling me that they are done. I want them to reflect on how they can make it better or what else can they add.
Being reflective is a life long skill. Yes, at some point, we have to turn in work and call it complete. But until that time, it's always best to reflect and really ponder what it is we have accomplished to see how we can improve.
PS - Since I've hung this poster, and we had a conversation, my kids no longer come and say I'm done. They are reflective and actively trying to improve their work.
