In December, if you would have asked me who I was, my response would have been a teacher. Because since I was 9, that’s all I wanted to be – it’s all I have ever known. Some people dream of being a doctor others a mother – me? I wanted to be a teacher. In the last few pages of Innovator’s Mindset, George Couros writes about his experience and shares with us that he doesn’t see his work as a part of his “job” but as a part of his being. That really resonated with me because when I started this journey, I wanted my job to highlight who I am as a person not define who I am - and I feel like that is where I am at in my life. I have all these qualities which have shaped me and because of that, it makes me a better educator for my students.
You may not believe in divine guidance but I do. And I feel like every step of the way has truly been guided for me. Somehow Innovator’s Mindset fell into my lap in February, then shortly after I stumbled across a post for the #IMMOOC experience. I honestly do not even know how. But, if you believe in divine guidance then those experiences show you that there is more to this than meets the eye. This whole experience has pushed me while encouraging me – especially when it comes to blogging about my experiences. Truthfully, I have the same long list of research interests I always have - the only difference is now I have a stronger connection to my beliefs in ways I cannot describe. I, like George, feel like it is a part of my being and I’m grateful everyday for the chance to inspire children. So thank you IMMOOC community for supporting, listening, sharing and blogging along the way with me. I am very grateful for the experience. Until next time, Jackie
